In my state if you don't have a law enforcement degree and just go to the academy it is an 11 week training program. Completion of the training doens't mean that you will automatically be hired by a police department though.

Yes, pepper spray and a taser are standard issue for police departments. They have to have non-lethal options on them to restrain suspects if needed. For the record, officers are not allowed to carry either of those unless they have had them used on themselves.

This happens so often! People think that they are hiring someone to do something like that and it turns out to be a cop or other law enforcement personnel. Personally, I wouldn't have the slightest clue where to look for someone to do something like that.
